Vale Linds Redding – art director and animator
The ad industry in New Zealand, England and Scotland will be saddened to hear of the passing of Linds Redding, a hugely talented art director and animator, at the age of only 52.
British born, Linds graduated with a degree in Graphic Design, and launched straight into a career in advertising having been told by a fellow student it was a guaranteed way of getting fabulously wealthy very young. Twenty five years later, he hunted down the person responsible and killed him with a baseball bat and buried the body in the woods.
Linds worked as an art director for several agencies in London and Edinburgh, before emigrating to New Zealand with his family in the mid nineties. He worked for most of NZ’s top creative agencies, Saatchi, DDB, Colenso and The Campaign Palace before leaving agency life at the millennium to pursue his interests in Motion Graphics and animation. For the past ten years, Linds has run a successful animation studio designing and producing TVC’s for the New Zealand advertising industry.
In late 2011, at 51 Linds was diagnosed with inoperable Eosophigal Cancer. He then gave up work to spend his time at home on Waiheke Island in Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf walking, writing, drawing and making music. Up until recently, he was still blogging on the tricky business of living and dying at lindsredding.com
One of Redding’s best articles is titled ‘A Short Lesson in Perspective’.
Absolutely essential reading for everyone in the industry.

That really sucks. He was he was a top bloke, generous with his time and effort, and great to work with. And talented as hell. Condolences to his family.
An incredibly talented and equally lovely man. So unfair.
Only just ‘met’ Linds this morning when a friend posted the link to his excellent blog post “A Short Lesson In Perspective”; his passing lends the post an even more pointed and poignant perspective. Vale Linds.

Really sad news. Linds was the best guy to work with. Totally genuine and an amazing talent. Doesn’t seem right. Huge condolences.
A life well lived. A battle well fought.
Linds has left for adventures new in a galaxy far far way.
Legacy is a rare word in the context of advertising but Linds has left us a legacy via his brilliant and insightful blogg, much of which is about his personal battle with the dreaded ‘rust’. he also penned this this must read observation on a life spent in advertising. Read it… act on it.

Incredibly sad news. A lovely, talented guy who went way before his time.
‘A Short Lesson in Perspective’. is a legacy that will live on with me at least, but i suspect more…
God speed.
I worked with Lindsey when he started his career at Hall Advertising in Edinburgh. He was a top young bloke then and always had real talent. What a great waste.Thoughts go out to his family and many many friends.
Like many others I was deeply touched by reading ‘A Short Lesson in Perspective’ and so sorry to learn of his death.
Linds had the gift of painting a picture and turning it into a mirror.
I only discovered Linds’ A Short Lesson in Perspective, the same day I learned of his passing. In one relatively short piece, he captured the angst so many creative people I know suffer from. I count myself amongst the legions.
