The Sweet Shop’s directors win big at New Zealand Film Awards held last night

Last night’s New Zealand Film Awards saw four of The Sweet Shop’s directors come away smiling with multiple wins.

 

Directing duo Mark Albiston (near left) and Louis Sutherland (far left) won big for their debut feature Shopping. The duo picked up Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Cinematography and Best Poster Design. The film, which has already received a series of accolades this year with a premiere at Sundance, a win at the Berlin International Film Festival and selected to screen at numerous film festivals around the world, and last night was yet another notch on the belt.

special problems.jpgCampbell Hooper (far left) and Joel Kefali (near left) of Special Problems also enjoyed wins in the short film category, picking up awards for Best Screen Play and Best Cinematography for The Weinstein Company and The Sweet Shop produced short Echoes. The film received rave reviews after it premiered in May this year during the Cannes Film Festival, at an event hosted by Harvey Weinstein.

 

The Sweet Shop would like to congratulate their directors on the great achievements from last night and will continue to support them in their future projects. These awards represent the company and directors’ commitment to bold and distinctive storytelling over all forms of filmed media.

 

In addition, The Sweet Shop’s co-development partner, Andrew Adamson, of Strange Weather Films, won four awards for his feature Mr Pip, starring Hugh Laurie.
