THE ROCKET.jpgCurious Film has just won its first major award for producing VFX at the Beijing International Film Festival for The Rocket.

Says Peter Grasse, executive producer at Curious: “We did all the VFX in-house on this film – it is by far the biggest VFX project we’ve embarked on yet, so this is a huge win for Curious.”

The Rocket won Best Visual Effects at the Beijing International Film Festival – despite being up against Wong Kar Wai’s VFX extravaganza The Grandmaster about the man who trained Bruce Lee.

Written and directed by Australian director Kim Mordaunt, The Rocket tells the story of a young underdog Ahlo who leads his family and a couple of ragged misfits to the dangerous Rocket Festival in the mountains of Laos to prove he doesn’t carry a curse.

Critics have praised the film’s realism, authenticity and atmosphere, which were achieved together by Mordaunt and the talented VFX team at Curious.

Distributed in Australia and New Zealand by Curious Distribution, The Rocket has won more than 40 awards globally since its premiere last year including three awards at TriBececa for Best Narrative Feature, the Audience Award, while 10 year-old Sitthiphon Disamoe (a former street kid) won Best Actor. And at the Berlin International Film Festival, The Rocket won Crystal Bear for Best Feature, Best First Feature and the Amnesty International Film Prize.

Says Film.com: “If you aren’t moved by the “The Rocket” your heart is defective.”

The Rocket is now available on iTunes.
