To promote the season premiere of Game of Thrones, DDB New Zealand gave fans the one thing they all wanted the chance to bring down the despised character of King Joffrey. Five days before the premiere we erected a 7m statue of the King in NZ’s largest public square, then invited fans worldwide to topple him via a winch, activated every time #bringdowntheking was used on Twitter. They could watch progress via live stream on our dedicated website.

In 2013 the New Zealand government passed a law that pushed the producers of legal highs to safety test them on dogs. Animal-rights activists, Paw Justice, asked DDB Group New Zealand to create a campaign that would force the government to review this law. With very little money or time, we needed to do something drastic to get the publics attention, so we took away what they love. We created an animal strike, with the aim of blocking animal content in New Zealand for one day. All mediums worked together seamlessly to create the strike, gain awareness and spread our petition all at the same time. Through public pressure the government was forced to review the law and are looking at an amendment right now.

Steinlager, NZ’s leading beer brand, decided it was a good time to promote a more sensible drinking attitude. The campaign crafted by DDB NZ centres around making fun of friends who have had to much to drink, heroing a sensible drinker at a party who draws random pictures on his mates.

To celebrate Rialto’s television premiere of the award-winning movie, Shopping, DDB New Zealand set up the Shopping Shop. A two-hour LIVE online auction featuring the lead actors where Kiwis had the chance to ‘score mean as stuff’ including original props from the movie.
