Cannes Lions set to honour former U.S. vice president Al Gore with Cannes LionHeart Award
The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity has announced that former U.S. vice president, Al Gore, will be honoured with the Cannes LionHeart Award at this year’s Festival.
Terry Savage, chairman of Lions Festivals, said that it was “incredibly humbling to be able to give the Cannes LionHeart to a man that had achieved so much, particularly in his devotion to solving the global climate crisis.”
Introduced last year, the Cannes LionHeart is an honorary award, presented to an individual who through innovative use of commercial brand power has made a significant and positive difference to people or the planet.
Gore is co-founder and chairman of Generation Investment Management. He is a senior partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, and a member of Apple, Inc.’s board of directors. Gore spends the majority of his time as chairman of The Climate Reality Project, a non-profit devoted to solving the climate crisis. He was inaugurated as the forty-fifth vice president of the United States on January 20, 1993, where he served eight years. He is the author of a series of bestsellers, the subject of an Oscar-winning documentary, as well as the co-recipient of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.
During Cannes Lions, Gore will also participate in the Cannes Debate with Sir Martin Sorrell on Friday 26 June in the Grand Audi. Their wide-ranging discussion will cover Live Earth: Road to Paris, The Climate Reality Project and the role of communications in political and environmental campaigning.
Gore will be presented with the LionHeart at the Cannes Lions Awards Ceremony on Saturday 27 June. Further information about Cannes Lions as well as details on how to be a part of it can be found at www.canneslions.com.

Yet another way in which Cannes has not just jumped the shark, but somersaulted over with a couple of twists and a pike.
What a crock of shit.
hasn’t al run into a few credibility problems of late?
He’s a perfect match for Cannes then.
In fifty years, history will show this guy had been the biggest greenwashing piece of work humanity has ever known. His own personal carbon footprint is up to 300 times that of your regular Joe.
Yeah great fellas, give him an award.
I’m kind of surprised Cannes isn’t charging 550 euro for us to bask in the self-righteous glow of Mr Gore.
I’d actually almost pay that to see him in a proper debate with someone prepared to question his bullshit, rather than what appears to be a mutual stroking session with Martin Sorrell.
Well done Cannes.
WTF has Cannes become? Yet another reptile greasing his palms elsewhere. Did you know he travels around with a fridge full of blood everywhere he goes? Don’t believe it, do your research. Who next, big brother contestants?
