As CB revealed last week, the 2011 Caxton Seminar and Awards will be held in the NSW Hunter Valley from October 27-29.

For the past 37 years, the Caxton Awards has celebrated the finest creativity in newspaper advertising. This year, the event will enter an important and exciting new phase with the addition of a suite of new digital award categories, to more accurately represent the total newspaper offering in the digital age.

This year’s Caxton Awards will include four new digital categories for online advertising that has appeared on any newspaper site and property (ie. online, tablet, mobile or apps). The categories are: Standard banners – single or campaign Rich media – in page and expanding ads Rich media – over the page Rich video.

Also introduced this year will be a new Best Cross-Platform Newspaper Campaign category, for any campaign that has appeared across at least two newspaper platforms: printed newspapers, newspaper-inserted magazines, tablet, mobile or app.

And in a further development of Award categories, ads in newspaper-inserted magazines may now be entered into product, craft and campaign categories as well.

Rob Belgiovane-NEW-web.jpgSays Caxton Committee chairman, Rob Belgiovane (left): “The pace of evolution in the newspaper industry in the past few years has been extraordinary, with the emergence of digital platforms completely reshaping conventional newspaper models.

“After a recent review of the Caxton Awards, the Committee has this year introduced these new digital categories to reflect the importance of digital newspaper platforms and to reward the outstanding creative work that we’re now seeing more and more of in the digital newspaper space,” Belgiovane said.
