All three categories of Media, Print and Cyber posted an increase in entries, with the total number up 44% from last year. Nationally 72 individual creative and media agency offices entered this year’s competition.

Media was the big mover with entries up 93%. Sydney entries rose from 35 to 56, while Melbourne media agencies posted the highest growth, entering 36 submissions up from 11 last year. Perth also rose significantly, from 3 to 12. A total of 112 media entries now rivals the number of print entries received in Young Lions.

Says News Limited Director of Sales Tony Kendall: “The increase in the number of entries to this year’s Young Lions demonstrates the competition’s importance to up-and-coming advertising and media stars and their agencies.

“Moving the finals to Melbourne has certainly paid dividend with the Melbourne market responding well. We wish all competitors good luck as they begin the rigorous selection process.”

Judging of the first-round entries will commence on Wednesday (20 April) with shortlisted entrants for all three categories (Media, Print, Cyber) to be announced on 6 May.

In the second round, finalists will compete in a 24-hour competition and respond to a new brief designed to prepare them for the Cannes experience. The three winning teams representing Australia at the 2011 worldwide Young Lions Competition in Cannes 19 to 25 June will be announced at an event to be held in Melbourne on 19 May.
