Droga5 calls for creative companies to commit to the trial hire of a person with a disability
Droga5 Australia creative chairman David Nobay is calling on the 32,000 registered creative companies in Australia to commit to the trial of a person with a disability.
From advertising agencies to architectural firms, film to fashion, theatre and dance companies to music and production studios.
By 2021, the Creative Spirit program – an initiative of Droga5 in partnership with Break Thru People Solutions – aims to get every one of those companies on board. Ultimately, this will make the creative community the largest employer of these extraordinary people.
Nobay launched Creative Spirit yesterday at the Caxton Awards & Seminar in the NSW Hunter Valley. After screening the video there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
To kick things off a handful of like-minded companies are already on board: The Monkeys, Shine, Frost, and Nylon. And it couldn’t be simpler to join them and share your work place with someone truly extraordinary. Simply ‘Sign up’ to the Creative Spirit program and Break Thru will take care of the rest.
Droga5 would like to thank: Matt Long, from Goodoil for directing the films, as well as The Editors, Nylon Music and Finn Design.

Finally!
Love this Nobby! Great mission.
Does. It’s great.
Nobby, I get very cynical about our puffed up, superficial industry, but this makes me very proud. Your video is a beautiful crafting of a simple humane truth; diversity makes us more interesting and better at our jobs.
Also, it makes us convict scum from the arse end of the pacific look bloody sensitive.
That was one of the most inspirational things I’ve ever seen come out of this industry, if not the most.
Thankyou Droga5! I really hope my company gets behind this. It was in our team briefing this morning and I think popular demand will see us bringing more of these people into the real working world!
Well done!
Great initiative. You have one more production company on board !
Something absolutely positive and something absolutely worthwhile.
We’re seeing what we can do to get M&C involved in the program.
Well done D5.
It’s crap. Been done before. Badly directed. Rubbish talent. Never win anything…
Jokkkking! Seriously this is the high point of what we do: use our craft skills to make positive stuff happen.
I’m pushing my agency to make this happen, and pushing out to everyone I know.
Is this what Canberra means by “bipartisan support”??
There’s hope for us all.
“It’s NOT one of those ‘wow, why didn’t we think of that moments’ but more like ‘why haven’t we been doing this for years moments’
Great initiative and something we are now looking to see if we can somehow initiate in Singapore. Any other Sing based agencies – want to give me a shout………..?”

As someone who works in the industry and has a Down’s Syndrome sister I think this is a fantastic initiative!
I can guarantee from first hand experience that any agency that gets involved with this program will find that there will be a lot more smiles and laughter (and a little less stress and navel gazing) as a result!
Well done Nobay.
I had the amazing opportunity to work alongside Lloyd and it was a life-changing experience.
His pure joy for life, work and everything around him was amazing to watch. Alongside his everyday growth. It was a constant reminder of how beautiful life can be, no matter what, and how lucky we are.
One of the most amazing things about Lloyd was that whenever I felt tired, pressured, homesick, down on my ideas… whatever… Lloyd instantly made those negative feelings dissapear into thin air with his enthusiasm and joyful exuberance. He would just come over, give me a dope handshake and we’d chat for a few minutes about whatever was going on in his life. And as soon as he left, poof. He just had the power to make you realize that no matter how tough things get, it’s no reason to feel down. After all, life is precious and a beautiful thing. Really puts things in perspective.
I can’t speak highly enough of this initiative. And when I walked out of the D5 doors, I vowed to do my best in making whatever agency I would be part from then on to give a chance to someone like Lloyd.
Love and bless to the D5 team and anyone else that takes part of the Creative Spirit.
Congratulations all involved, a great way to do some good, and a lovely idea.
Beautiful in every way. Well done Droga 5.
THIS IS FANTASTIC!
I worked in advertising agencies around Australia for about 10 years as an able-bodied Copywriter. But now I’m on the other side of the fence as a disabled person.
I cannot begin to tell you, from personal experience, just how much I missed briefs, deadlines and last minute client changes… All the stuff you sometimes hate 🙂
Well done Droga 5. Hats off to all involved in this amazing project. All creative people should be using their skills for life changing things like this.
Frog in the throat type stuff.
nice one.
Congrats Nobby and team. Wonderful work. Wonderful cause.
But please, everyone, understand what you’re committing to and then commit to it.
People’s lives, their hopes and aspirations are involved here.
Our agency is meeting Thursday to discuss the program. I’m pretty sure we’ll become involved. However, if we do, we won’t want our name shown on any map, or list – it’s something we’ll do because we think we can and want to. This is a big commitment and agencies should do it for the right reason, not be shamed into it, or made feel they are any less compassionate because they don’t participate. I’m sure D5 and Nobby would agree. Congrats again.
This is a great initiative. I’ve worked with people with disabilities in other agencies tho, so I hope it’s from the heart and not an award stab.
Which I’m sure it isn’t.
Well done team.
brilliant work D5.
AWESOME.
as soon as we have more room we are in.
does it matter if we sign up and can’t take someone immediately?
well done nobster and everyone involved.
