wiggles 2ure 1.jpgIn another groundbreaking move within Australia’s digital and IPTV services The Playroom, the leading facilitator of production infrastructure, content aggregation and broadcast services, today announced that it has facilitated and jointly developed The Wiggles IPTV service Wiggle Time TV for the entertainment brand’s website and the Sony Bravia internet-enabled television platform.

Says The Playroom managing directorTom Kennedy: “Scott-Bradley Pearce, The Playroom’s manager – IPTV services had been in discussions with The Wiggles for some time as to how they could expand their brand globally and take advantage of the raft of IPTV services and platforms that are becoming increasingly popular. For example, Sony Australia has moved to shore up its product offering by launching several new products via their new Internet-enabled Sony Bravia televisions and The Wiggles website is another perfect platform for the brand’s global expansion.”

Pearce and the rest of The Playroom senior team devised an IPTV technology strategy forThe Wiggles based on their knowledge and experience across all areas of digital production, management, distribution and commercial business models, presenting a solution that would suit the brand’s immediate requirements and also be future proof.

wiggles 1.jpgKennedy continued: “The Playroom has enabled the Wiggles to convert, store and deliver their video content to both the Sony Bravia TV platform and their Wiggle Time TV website. Utilising a digital archive solution combined with the flexibility of the open source Kaltura video platform, The Playroom has also implemented unique cost effective workflows to ingest, store and convert The Wiggles video content for delivery to many other platforms globally.”

The Wiggles use digital agency The Farm for all the website’s front-end work but critically needed a company with extensive digital experience in IPTV, broadcast, archiving and production to help with the back end.

The Playroom was recently identified as one of the key players in the Australian Online Video Platform (OVP) Market in the September 2011 Frost & Sullivan report on the topic .

Kennedy added, “The Wiggles can now convert their content into a sustainable digital video library and deliver to multiple digital platforms. The Playroom system seamlessly supports delivery to any IP based device and platform in order to provide viewers an optimal online video experience across all browsers and on any portable device. Just as importantly The Playroom has provided The Wiggles with efficient workflows that allow them to explore diverse business opportunities worldwide. This is not possible with most companies as they simply do not have the knowledge, experience and infrastructure that The Playroom has in IPTV and video on demand.

Wiggle Time TV offers children access to programmes including The Wiggles and Dorothy the Dinosaur for a small monthly subscription fee opening up a whole new world of opportunities for the brand and their consumers.

Kennedy concluded, “In addition to the ingest and archiving solution we have also developed and implemented a system whereby The Wiggles team can log in and remotely add metadata to their digital assets stored on servers at The Playroom. This Content Management System allows remote management, viewing and distribution of the assets by The Wiggles’ team to any platform from any desktop PC. The key is that all of The Wiggles content is ingested, optimised and delivered by The Playroom media asset management systems and storage solutions. This gives The Wiggles a truly efficient, scalable and future proofed solution which underpins their global expansion strategy for their brand.”

Wiggle Time TV is now live and available on both The Wiggles website and via the Sony Bravia TV platform.
