rip curl.jpgSydney-based mobile application development agency LOMAH Studios has launched a ‘Rip Curl Live Events’ mobile app for client Rip Curl, one of the largest global surfing brands.

The free app is now available for iPhone, iPad and Android and consists of many

innovative features such as: ‘Live Stream’ where viewers can watch the television coverage of live events and results on their mobile, allowing fans to stay up to date with ‘Event Status’ that includes surf reports, event start times and forecasts.

This stems from the success of its Rip Curl surfing app game ‘Live The Search’, which

was launched in October 2010. In January 2011, the app was installed on 100,000

iPhones within a 48-hour period.

TMN (Telecomunicações Móveis

Nacionais) has come on board as this year sponsor of Rip Curl’s Bells Beach Pro surfing

competition, to be held in Portugal on October 15, 2011, replacing last year’s leading sponsor, Ford.

Says LOMAH Studios creative director Steve Molloy: “Working closely with the Rip Curl team meant we could incorporate many innovative

features, such as data integration to allow for engagement across social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook, which makes this app very popular with a tech savvy

target audience,”

“The Rip Curl Live Events app is a very important part of the marketing strategy for our

Rip Curl Pro World Tour events,” says Rip Curl International media manager Dane

Sharp. “Surfing has a large, enthusiastic and very engaged global audience that live and

breath professional surfing, no matter what the time zone they’re always connected,”

explains Sharp.

“We have made a lot of effort to complement the features of the iPhone and iPad that we

love so much; swipe, zoom, rotate, share and notifications,” adds Rip Curl Group

webmaster Brendan Downs. “This is a one-stop-shop for all Rip Curl events.”

The app is now available on the iTunes AppStore
