Comms Council offers career-boosting Grad Program for new generation of communicators

comms.jpgThe Communications Council has launched its annual search for up to fifty university graduates who believe they have what it takes to succeed in the fast-paced, dynamic communication industry.

For over 30 years, the Communications Council has been seeking out the best-of-the-best graduates and giving them a first-class ticket to a career in the industry through its Comms Grad Program. The successful applicants will be stand-out problem solvers; inquisitive and excellent communicators who pride themselves on attention to detail. They’ll be digitally savvy and like to buck trends and challenge traditional ways of thinking.

The Communications Council recognises that these skills aren’t taught in any one particular university course so the Program is open to all grads from all disciplines, not only those who have studied advertising, business, marketing or communication degrees. Successful applicants will attend a uniquely tailored five-day University bridging course to prepare them for working in the industry, after being matched up with one of the best communications companies in Australia.

Matthew Melhuish, Founding Partner of BMF and now Chairman of the Enero Group kickstarted his career via the Graduate Program way back in 1983.

Says Melhuish: “I could not have asked for a better way to enter the industry. I spent nine months as a Graduate Trainee at a great Australian creative agency called Magnus Nankervis & Curl (MN&C), learning from some of the best in the business locally, including Colin Wilson-Brown. I worked at MN&C for a total of three years before heading to London to join Bartle Bogle Hegarty. The Graduate experience really gave me an edge in taking my career forward by joining an iconic, world class agency in London.

“I look back at the Program with real gratitude that so many kind  people helped guide me through it and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone seeking a brilliant start in our wonderful and dynamic industry.”

The on-campus Summer School classes at Sydney & Melbourne Universities not only cover the fundamentals of working in the industry, but include lectures from industry heads, like Russel Howcroft, as well as some challenging individual and team assignments.

On completion of the bridging course, candidates will begin a nine-month contract at one of Sydney or Melbourne’s top agencies, starting in account management and with the possibility of experiencing varying roles in different departments to give them a 360-degree view of marketing communications today.
