Gruen Sweat host Wil Anderson and regulars Todd Sampson and Russel Howcroft will be joined by guest panellists as they commentate on the ‘brandtathlon’ better known as London 2012 – exposing the marketing machine that underpins, underwrites and over-exploits the Olympics.

Tonight’s episode will feature Damian Keogh. Keogh had a 15 year international basketball career, wearing the green and gold on more than 200 occasions, through three Olympic campaigns. He also competed at three World Championships before retiring in 1994. He was a pioneer in the development of the NBL. He has a commerce degree and worked for the Seven Network as head of Olympic marketing and promotion, as a columnist with the Sydney Morning Herald, and has commentated at Olympic Games.

Episode 3 will also include Karni Liddell. Liddell represented Australia in swimming at the 1996 and 2000 Paralympics Games and was a commentator at the Athens Paralympics and the Melbourne Commonwealth Games. She has run a successful PR and communications company for the last 10 years. She is a radio broadcaster, a journalist and a regular on the speaking circuit.

On tonight’s episode:

  • Brand Police Update: This week we look at attempts by news outlets to get around those pesky IOC broadcasting rules.
  • Ambush Marketing – Adidas paid $63 million to be an official Games sponsor, but surveys keep showing most people think the sponsor is Nike. So why bother? And why are athletes organising a mutiny on Twitter?
  • Olympic Mascots – The IOC’s version of “pester power”? The Gruen team looks Wenlock in the eyes, sorry, eye, and asks “What the hell are you?”
  • Chemicals and Sport – BP and Dow, two companies with image problems, are major sponsors of London 2012. Is any sponsor a good sponsor? Is any money good money?
  • Personal Worst – each week the Gruen team will showcase the WORST performances by athletes in TV commercials. Tonight’s star – FI driver Mark Webber.

The Pitch features Rowan Smith (Green Team Australia) vs Nima Yassini (New Republique).

The Challenge: A campaign to convince Australians that our Olympic team should have all its Government funding stopped.

The Client: Sport Hating Australian Taxpayers.
