Joe Hildebrand.jpgOne of Australia’s most talented and talked-about journalists, Joe Hildebrand, has been confirmed as a speaker for the 2012 Caxton Seminar and Awards in October.

The Caxton Committee said today it was delighted to be welcoming a journalist of Joe’s stature, representing News Ltd, as guest speaker at the celebrated annual advertising event.

Outspoken and often hilarious, Hildebrand is The Daily Telegraph’s Opinion and Inside Edition Editor and pens a column each week for the Saturday Telegraph. His biography on The Punch website, to which he regularly contributes, reads:

“Joe Hildebrand was born in Melbourne and extradited to Sydney in 2000. Despite this he considers Adelaide his spiritual home, having spent a pleasant weekend there in the mid-1990s.

He currently “works” at The Daily Telegraph, where he wrote a column for several years until it was removed on bad taste grounds. He is single for the same reason.

He has an abiding interest in cinema, notably the American action-adventure genre which is often overlooked by mainstream audiences. His favourite film is Independence Day, which until recently he believed to be a documentary.

He has a blog, which has been described as having a strong cult following, which is to say very few people read it.”

Earlier this year, Hilderbrand was the host of television series Dumb, Drunk and Racist, which debuted on ABC2 in June and was the highest rating Australian program in the history of ABC2. The show followed Joe and four Indian travellers around Australia to test whether the popular Indian perception of Australians as stupid, intoxicated bigots was correct.

Joe is also a regular guest on TV shows including The Drum, The Project, The Morning Show, Weekend Sunrise and, as of next week, Can Of Worms.

lee-clow.jpgCaxton Committee Chairman Justin Drape said: “This year’s Caxtons is all about storytelling, and Joe is a talented writer with a unique voice, so I’m very much looking forward to hearing what he has to say on the topic. It’s great news that he’s going to be a part of the seminar.”

Joe joins one of the most diverse, intriguing and entertaining line-ups of Australian and international guest speakers for the Caxtons for several years.

Delegates at the 2012 Caxtons will hear from international keynote speaker, founding partner of Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, Jeff Goodby, Goodby, Silverstein Managing Partner Derek Robson and Chairman and Global Director of TBWA\Worldwide, Lee Clow (above), who will make a special ‘virtual’ appearance at the seminar.

Australian speakers include Managing Director of Hopscotch Group and renowned movie executive Troy Lum, Commonwealth Bank Chief Marketing & Online Officer Andy Lark, PHD Media Australia Strategy Director Chris Stephenson and Special Group Creative Director and Founding Partner Tony Bradbourne.
