Satirical consumer affairs show The Checkout launches episode 2 tonight at 8pm on ABC1

ABC TV launches second episode of new satirical show, The Checkout tonight (Thursday) at 8:00pm on ABC1 featuring Craig Reucassel and Julian Morrow (The Hamster Wheel, The Chaser’s War on Everything), Kirsten Drysdale (Hungry Beast) and Kate Browne from consumer group Choice.
If you’re sick of being misled, lied to, taken advantage of, or just plain confused when you buy, you have the right not to remain silent … and The Checkout team is at your service. For a limited time only.
In tonight’s episode:
- Copycat Products – Craig gives Coles and Woolworths a taste of their own medicine;
- Mobile Phone Regulation Madness – Kirsten shows how unhappy mobile phone users are being let down by the regulatory system that is meant to look after their consumer rights;
- Adventures in Fine Print – Julian gives Jetstar’s flight insurance a road test with a little help from Al Qaeda;
- F.U. Tube – a viewer tells us about his experience of being charged some sneaky credit card fees;
- If I Could Say One Thing – Teresa Corbin, CEO of the Australian Communications Consumer Action Network, fills us in on some of our rights when it comes to mobile phone contracts;
- A Rational Consumer – Craig, with the help of psychology and marketing expert, Paul Harrison from Deakin University, examines the complex ways companies target consumers in the retail world.

This show is no Chaser.
This is great.
At first I thought it was going to be a piss take but it’s much better than that. A bit like Hungry Beast but miles ahead, very enlightening look at how corporations are butt-fucking Australia.
Good stuff guys.
