the-checkout-620x349.jpgABC TV will air the sixth episode of its new satirical show, The Checkout tomorrow (Thursday) at 8:00pm on ABC1 featuring Craig Reucassel and Julian Morrow (The Hamster Wheel, The Chaser’s War on Everything), Kirsten Drysdale (Hungry Beast) and Kate Browne from consumer group Choice.

If you’re sick of being misled, lied to, taken advantage of, or just plain confused when you buy, you have the right not to remain silent … and The Checkout team is at your service. For a limited time only.

In this week’s episode:

  • Superfoods? – Goji berries, chia seeds, acai, quinoa, kale, spirulina, wheatgrass, sprouted millet and activated almonds! Kristen explores whether “superfoods” do what they claim e.g fight cancer, help weightloss, prevent aging, improve vision, boost libido and sleep quality (in that order?), stabilise blood sugars and improve brain function.
  • Or, is it all just Oprah-fuelled hype? Could Miranda Kerr and Jennifer Hawkins have got the science wrong?
  • Do Not Knock – Craig shows how to keep door-to-door sales people in check, or just off your door step altogether.
  • If I Could Say One Thing – Rod Sims, Chair of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) explains how we have more rights than we think. He also flagrantly breaches the rules of “If I Could Say One Thing” by slipping a sneaky ad for the ACCC Shopper app onto the ABC.
  • Signs of the Time –  Jules invites viewers to send in photos of funny, annoying or illegal signs, like the one Patrick sent in which suggests Coles’ maths skills are Down Down.
  • Access Over Ownership – Rachel Botsman, author of “What’s Mine Is Yours”, and Jules look at collaborative consumption and the new ways of turning your stuff into cash. Sharing rather than owning things like drills, cars, tools, music and fashion can save money and time. Did you know that 1 car share takes 13 private vehicles off the road?
  • Parallel Consumerverse – Craig and Kirsten imagine a world where cinemas charged like gyms ….
  • F.U.TUBE – This week Craig helps 9 year old Ronan get his way home on Virgin! And Dick Smith has a crack at Dick Smith.
