CleverBuoy.jpgAustralia has secured one Gold Lion and two Bronze Lions at the Cannes Mobile Lions competition tonight.

M&C Saatchi Sydney was awarded the Gold Lion for Optus ‘Clever Buoy’.

Launched in 2014, ‘Clever Buoy’ was created by M&C Saatchi Sydney for Optus, to demonstrate the power of its network by developing a piece of breakthrough shark detection technology. The smart ocean buoy detects sharks in the water and sends instant alerts to lifeguards via the Optus Network, protecting the lives of people – and sharks.

Says Jaimes Leggett, group CEO at M&C Saatchi Australia: “This campaign has shown how brutally simple ideas really can change the world. We’re excited about the next phase of this project, and are hugely grateful to Cannes Lions for the honour of this award.”

GPY&R Melbourne scored Bronze for Oakley ‘Pro Vision’ as well as Whybin\TBWA Group Sydney which also scored Bronze for Tourism NZ ‘NZ Dronie’.

In Mobile, 57 Lions were narrowed-down from 1,246 entries, with Google Mountain View taking home the Grand Prix for Google “Cardboard” – an idea that almost rendered the technology invisible in order to allow the experience to seem natural.
