Marketforce's Chris Andrawes and Ben Derham along with Maurice Melchers from Longtail won the Perth leg of the NASA SpaceApps Hackathon for the second year in a row over the weekend.

The SpaceApps Hackathon is a global event run in 200 cities around the world at the same time. The 20,000 participants take on a challenge from a list of challenges that NASA set.

In this year's challenge Andrawes, Derham and Melchers took on a brief to slow the rate of decline in food sustainability that at current forecast will see 1 in 3 people on Earth malnourished by the year 2050.

The team's solution "Taste Buds" chose to take on the shocking statistic that a third of food on Earth is thrown away, the majority of which is from unsustainable food sources. The solution involved getting people to eat food together, reducing inevitably thrown out "leftovers" via a new tinder-esque dating app.

The team now go on to the world stage hoping to better their top 5 worldwide placement last year.
