"Radio signal is a wave, the waves that make the biggest splash are The White Horses"

Since 1994, Southern Cross Austereo has sponsored the annual Radio Writers' Award for the most outstanding creative radio commercial of the year, aired on their stations; mix94.5 or hit92.9. With a generous prize of $20,000 for the writer/s of the winning commercial, it's one of the most coveted creative awards in the country.

To demonstrate SCA's commitment to supporting home-grown creativity - and to increase awareness beyond just the creatives who write radio commercials - the prestigious award now has a new name, The White Horse, a stunning new trophy (to be revealed soon) and from this year will be presented at PADC's The Skulls annual award show.

SCA Perth Head of Sales, Noel Quick, said they felt it was time to update the Radio Writers' Award with a more unique name and trophy, and announce it on a bigger stage.
"Having given away well over $400,000 since its inception, the Award is a major investment by SCA in fostering creativity in radio advertising in WA. Our presentation lunches have been great events but after twenty-three years, we thought it would be good to share the excitement and prestige of the Award with a wider local audience. As long-time supporters of the PADC, we're thrilled to make this a part of the annual Skull's celebrations."

While The White Horse Award will be presented at The Skulls, it remains separate to any of The Skulls categories and needs to be entered via a dedicated website -

Each month's entries will continue to be judged by a panel of local creatives (non-conflicting) who vote independently on each commercial to decide a shortlist.

The commercials making the finalist stage will be judged by 3 prominent advertising creatives - The Chairman of Judges at The Skulls, and two international-level judges renown for award-winning radio work.
