Last Friday saw a room full of brands and businesses of all sizes, including some of Perth's best developers, gather to hear the latest reveals from Google HQ.

Marketforce and OMDWA joined forces to host Perth's first ever Google I/O conference, curating, digesting and debating key insights from the three-day conference, presented by the Google team in San Francisco at the tail-end of last week.
Chris Andrawes, Marketforce's digital creative lead, kicked off the day with a recap of the main points within Google CEO, Sundar Pichai's keynote address. Big reveals included ways in which AI is transforming healthcare; Gmail's new upgrade with a predictive 'emailing' feature; automated photo and document enhancements with Google Photos; Google Assistant's new eerily real conversational tone and kid-friendly settings called 'Pretty Please'; and visually assistive Google Maps.
From there, the session moved into Google's recommendations for building a successful web presence, which included ways to build out a site's presence in search through hosting platforms, content management systems, and plugins. Material delivered included the best practices, tools, structured data, and APIs to make it easier to work with new and updated pages over the whole content lifecycle.
Opportunities, challenges and strategies to develop AI for everyone covered all things AI presented by research and product leaders from Google, who discussed opportunities for AI to positively impact society, as well as responsibilities and challenges as the technology is developed.
The second half of the afternoon saw a focus on the future of websites with 'The web: state of the union', which highlighted some of the recent transformations of the modern web including ways and developer tools to build fast and immersive experiences that reach everyone online.

The presentation showed how developers and companies are taking advantage to build best-in-class experiences that are making real business impact, and gave a sneak peek into the exciting new advances coming to the platform in the near-future.
The event was rounded off with a panel discussion, digesting the techy and not-so-techy content from the day and providing insight into implications for digital advertising and web development - specifically within the West Australian context. Panelists included Ben Derham, Technical Lead at Marketforce; Karina Gersonde, Digital Client Services Manager at OMD WA; and Ben Kidney, Managing Partner & Director of Interactive at Clemenger BBDO, Melbourne
The event was a great success with many in the audience captivated by the Progressive Web Apps, Google Assistant's new, creepily real AI interface and predictive health opportunities in the AI space. Attendees included Lotterywest, University of Western Australia, CBH, Perth Racing, GasTech, Alinta Energy, St John of God Hospitals, City of Armadale and WA Electoral Commission.
