Hunt departs the CD gig at The Foundry
CB EXCLUSIVE –Adam Hunt, who was only appointed creative director of The Foundry, Sydney, on March 2, (following the departure of founding creative partnerIan Brown) has left the agency, largely due to the loss of the sizeable Snooze business.
Hunt told CB: “I left because there was a conflict between some new business we won in Sydney, and some existing business we had in Melbourne – which had to be resigned. That left a large hole in agency revenue, and they could no longer afford my role. The Foundry’s managing director Simon Burrett is a bloody good bloke, and I’m genuinely sad to be no longer working with him.”
Hunt’simpressive list of career awards includes two Cannes Gold Lions, AGrand Prix at Eurobest, Gold at London International, Silver PencilNomination at D&AD, and work in the Permanent Collection of MOMA inNew York.
Hunt has worked with the world’s biggest brandsincluding Nike, British Airways, Guinness, Procter & Gamble,Hewlett Packard, Samsung, MTV, and he was a Creative Director on theteam that delivered the acclaimed BigPond ‘Rabbits’ ad at BWM.
Hunt’scareer has traversed London, New York and Amsterdam. His passion for media-neutral communication has seen him write, design, photograph and illustrate a book published by Random House – as well ascreate highly successful ambient and viral ads for AmnestyInternational, Kevin 07 and his online T-Shirt company Goatboy.

That’s really shitty news.
Good people lasting 10 minutes at agencies because revenue is drying up.
I think we all need to take stock from this and understand that we are all gonna feel some pain, if we aren’t already.
As an industry we all need to kinda pull together a bit, not in a “Sound of Music and tissues” type of way, but in a way where we all just get on with life and quit the focus on headlines of “crisis and redundancy”.
And for me the Trade Press are called upon to do their bit. Without the industry there is no trade press. So let’s just celebrate the work and new business wins and go a bit easy on the bad news for a while.
Good luck to Adam and The Foundry by the way.
Am I missing something here? They win business, and then resign business, which leaves them with less money. Why resign the bigger piece of business?
Sorry to hear Adam’s moving on. He’s a positive force in the industry.
But Philip, I think you’re getting confused about the role of trade press (and giving us too much credit).
Not reporting the bad news doesn’t make it magically not happen. It just means you might not get to hear about it.
Cheers,
Tim – Mumbrella
That’s really crumby news Adam. I wish you all the best.
Very sad to see Adam go. Even sadder to see other news that blasted through the Sydney office today. Some very talented, very nice people lost their livelihoods through no fault of their own, and, hopefully, no fault of management.
At the end of the day, good people come out on top in this industry and I have absolute faith that Adam, and the others, will.
It makes absolutely no sense that they win all that business then let the CD go.
PR is stranger than truth.
Well at least they’ve got a new Sydney office.
Sad news Adam…sounds like another complete lack of foresight and management skills. You will be better off somewhere else, they did the same thing to the last Associate CD.
sarah, they lost the snooze business which was worth more that any other business they gained.
Adam is a top bloke and i wish him all the best.
11.11am, who wouldn’t want to give up Snooze to do awesome work for Fantastic Furniture?
Spot on Ben…odd move.
‘Ben’,
Snooze was a Melbourne client and none of the Sydney creatives touched FF. Also, there’s never a good time to be bitter.
Good luck Adam, at least you got Gruen out of it.
1.51pm,
This is Ben, no bitterness, just stating facts. And the fact is it’s a stinking move by furnace management. And the repercussions are being felt in both their offices, with good people now out of work.
“Welcome aboard, keep up the great work, sorry but it’s not working out – pack up your things.”
That’s the Foundry way.
3.40.
it’s the foundry, not the furnace.
though sounds like both agencies feel the heat.
Just a note for S&J. The ‘Ben’s’ above aren’t the Ben you know from Sydney. People make decisions and hope for the best. Sometimes they don’t work out. Nothing wrong with that.
Did the Foundry really run out of money for a CD?
Just won a few accounts. Hmmm.
Er, does not compute, Sydney CD wins new business in Sydney…yay.
Conflicts with business in Melbourne…why pitch for Sydney biz in the first place?
If new Sydney business is more $$ and melbourne business is less $$ …why would CD have to go due to $$?
What am i missing?
Sad news – seems the Foundry is a revolving door lately. Didn’t they appoint Andy Healy as Associate CD last year, then he left, then Ian Brown left, then Adam joined, now he’s gone. What’s going on with them? Makes no sense to win business only to lose the people who win the business. And their website says they have a “One Team approach means that the entire resources of the agency will be at your disposal as required.” So surely this is just insane to pitch on something that is a conflict to another piece you have to resign.
Adam you are better than that and have bigger things ahead of you.
Why would you need a creative director when you’re doing churn and burn?
