TIGER_Megacity_Rise_Still.jpgSydney-based sound house Smith & Western has won a worldwide pitch to compose all the music for a new pan-Asian Tiger Beer campaign via Irish agency Rothco. The first spot, “Rise of The Megacity” – the first ad in a series of 5 – has just begun airing across Asia.

Rothco chose Smith & Western to work on the music after a worldwide search for the right composer/s. Their brief was to write and produce an original song that suited the futuristic FX-based visuals that could then be adapted to suit the four remaining commercials that will roll-out over the coming year. The song “Something Wrong About This City” was written by Smith & Western’s Nick West, Ant Smith and Dan Higson and features vocals by Jai Pyne from Australian rock band The Paper Scissors.

Says West: “It’s a fantastic win for us to work on this massive new Tiger campaign. It was also a lot of fun to work on but as our clients were in Dublin there were a lot of late nights and early mornings.”

Says Higson, S&W executive producer: “Given we’ve been working on this TV campaign for 3 months, Tiger has been ‘Our World’ for quite a while. It’s been a lot of hard work to get the ads on air but well worth it. We’re very proud of the music.”

The remaining ads in the 2013 Tiger Beer campaign are near completion and will air soon. For more info in this and their other work, go to Smith & Western’s site or visit them at their new premises in Surry Hills.
