CB-Christian-Mushenko-3.jpgAward winning international photographer Christian Mushenko has joined the ranks of the world class artists represented by Contacts Photography.

For over 20 years, Mushenko has shot for some of the world’s largest brands working with direct and agency clients in the UK, the US, Asia and Australia.

Some of Mushenko’s work will be on show at his latest exhibition, Longing, at the ArtHouse Hotel in Sydney from 13 May 2013 – 13 July 2013 as part of the HeadOn Photo Festival.

The exhibition will donate 20% of it’s proceeds to Ronald McDonald House Charities.

CB-Christian-Mushenko-1.jpgLonging references a quiet drama present in the photographs. They portray a light beyond darkness, a release into something beyond. Created without a lens the images are not a focused view of the world, but a more basic response to light, and become abstract colour fields. This lack of focus removes us from the actual subject in front of us, and instead hints at the mysterious, often unclear vision of our futures, made up of our internal desires and longing for what we don’t have.

Mushenko’s photography has a simple, honest style that manages to get to the heart of the subject. Specialising in shooting people in a distinctive silky and romantic style, his work is alive and vibrant, with an eye for beauty and humanity.

CB-Christian-Mushenko-2.jpgGrowing up on an orchard in Massachusetts, Mushenko had an affinity with nature from an early age. Walking through autumn foliage to a secret pond, or riding his horse bareback in the snow under a full moon were special memories, and often his camera was there to try and record the feeling behind these experiences.

Says Mushenko: “It is this ability to portray something with feeling and emotion, with ‘soul’ that excites me in my commercial work.”

Mushenko is also known for his lush fine-art seascapes, and is represented by June Bateman Fine Art in New York.
