HydePark_JCD.jpgThe City of Sydney, Grow It local,. Republic of Everyone and JCDecaux Innovate are showing off their green thumbs, bringing the humble vegie patch to the street, to promote sustainability and local food production.

As part of the Grow It Local initiative launched in 2012, Republic of Everyone, together with JCDecaux, transformed its Street Furniture into showcase planter boxes.

WynyardFront2_JCD.jpgThe campaign is designed to encourage Sydney siders to grow their own herbs and vegetables, and register over 500 garden patches on the interactive Grow It Local website. Currently, there are 715 gardens registered nationally, including over 70 in the City of Sydney, with a total area under cultivation of 6,890 square metres.

Says Max Eburne, general manager sales and marketing JCDecaux Australia: “We love working with clients who push the traditional boundaries of the out-of-home format. This campaign takes a traditional media space and turns it into an eye catching garden installation with an important environmental message.”

With herbs growing out of everyday household items, the campaign aims to demonstrate how simple it is to grow fresh produce in the City of Sydney whether in a backyard, on a balcony or a window sill. Each item relates to the JCDecaux location with a tea set on George Street near Queen Victoria Building, a brief case on York St near Wynyard, piggy bank on Elizabeth Street at Martin Place and a pair gumboots on Elizabeth Street at Hyde Park.

The campaign is live until the 6th May at four locations.
