Johnny Cupcakes.jpgFounder of street wear brand Johnny Cupcakes, Johnny Earle is set to present the keynote session at Movers & Bakers – a celebration of creative thinking and entrepreneurialism held at Sydney’s Luna Park on May 31st hosted by independent advertising agency The Works.

Earle has been named by Business Week as America’s number one Young Entrepreneur and he will reveal the secrets behind the brand’s remarkable global success at the exclusive event.

Over the past decade Johnny Cupcakes, founded by Earle, has built his business from selling his T-shirts out of the back of a beat up Toyota Camry in 2001 to a multi-million dollar enterprise with flagship stores in Boston, Los Angeles and London and an online operation that ships around the world.

Thousands of Johnny Cupcakes fans around the world have had the brand’s insignia of a skull and crossbones with a cupcake silhouette replacing the skull tattooed on themselves and hundreds of people camp outside his pop-up faux-bakeries which sell his clothing line.

In Australia as part of his sold out appearance at the Vivid Sydney festival, Earle will share how he moved on from selling his highly sort after T-shirts to friends and acquaintances to why his tightly controlled physical and online retail strategy has helped propel the brand globally.

Says Kevin Macmillan, creative partner at The Works: “The success of the Johnny Cupcakes brand is proof that an ambitious creative idea consistently well executed can reap the rewards on an international scale.

“The origins of The Works began from a similar place to Johnny’s business, but in a van not a Camry, with a vision where clients can expect brilliant and effective work from creatives who are actively involved in their business. We’re made up he has made the time to share the secrets of his success with our agency and our guests.”

Also on the billing is Eddie Zammit a Melbourne born T-shirt obsessive and owner of T-world, the only journal specialising in T-shirt culture. He will be joined by illustrator and freelance designer Travis Price who launched independent kids label Mister Mista and who has worked with the likes of Nike, Island Def Jam Records, Sony and Intel.

Movers & Bakers is a half-day event on 31 May at Luna Park in Sydney from 9am to 12pm. The Works is giving away a limited number of free tickets to attend.
