Spence is one of Australia’s premiere television production talents and most recently has been director of production at Spring, part of Fremantle Media. From 2000 to 2005 he won six Logie Awards as executive producer of Channel 9’s Backyard Blitz.

In addition, he has been executive producer on some of Australia’s most popular programs, many with significant brand involvement, including It’s a Knockout, Steve Irwin’s Wildlife Warriors, Renovation Rescue and Burke’s Backyard, Great Australians of 2013, and was executive director of Top Gear Australia. He was also creator and executive producer of Australian Renovations and executive producer of Costa’s Garden Odyssey.

Says Spence: “I am making this move because Ensemble is clearly the leader in Australia’s branded entertainment industry with top class clients at the agency and at the wider IPG Mediabrands group. The agency’s accomplishments in leading clients into highly relevant and successful branded entertainment has wide respect in the industry and there is so much more opportunity in this space for marketers. I am looking forward to this new stage of my career.”

Ensemble Australia CEO Justin Ricketts said Spence’s new role would bring world-class experience to Ensemble’s future plans and capabilities.

Says Ricketts: “Rick is without doubt one of Australia’s top TV production talents and we are really pleased to secure someone of this caliber within the growing branded entertainment marketplace.

“Content remains a key area of focus and growth for Ensemble and we have some big initiatives in development, as well as serious plans to expand our current brand-inspired offering into broader ‘pure content plays’. Rick’s appointment represents a significant step change in our approach to content.”

Spence will join Ensemble in mid-August.
