Spikes Asia Festival begins – Australia leads pack at shortlist stage of Direct, Outdoor, PR, Promo & Activation, Radio, Digital and Media categories

dumb_ways_to_die.jpgThe Spikes Asia Festival of Creativity has today opened its doors to begin a programme of  content that includes seminars, forums, master classes and tech talks, all given by some of the biggest names in the industry.

Throughout the Festival, 77 jury members are also hard at work deliberating over 4,832 pieces of work from across the region. The first shortlists have now been decided on and released by their respective juries, with the following number of entries being shortlisted in each category:

Design – 53

Digital – 56

Direct – 43

Media – 92

Mobile – 29

Outdoor – 118

PR – 40

Print – 89

Promo & Activation – 49

Radio – 22

Australia leads the country pack in Direct (19 out of the 43 finalists), Media (with 20 out of 92 finalists), Outdoor (18 out of 118 finalists), PR (16 out of 40 finalists), Promo & Activation (19 out of 49 finalists), Digital (25 out of 56 finalists) and Radio (14 out of 22 finalists)

This morning at Spikes Asia, seminars were given by the likes of Richard Summers, Head of Strategic Planning, Anomaly Shanghai, who looked at a breed of creativity that is emerging from China; Shingo Ohno, Art Director, W+K Tokyo Lab, who together with Blake Harrop, Managing Director at W+K Tokyo Lab, looked at the backstreets of Japan’s internet; and Ali Shabaz, Chief Creative Officer, Grey Group – Singapore, Thailand & Indonesia, who hosted a performance by Sanddornbalance artiste Miyoko Shida Rigolo to draw parallels between the art of sanddornbalance and the creative industry.

This afternoon will see competitors in the Young Spikes Integrated, Media and Agency Shoot Out Competitions receive briefings from their respective charity before being given just 24 hours to come up with their award winning campaign. Their work will be judged on the final day of the Festival when the most deserving team in each competition will find out they are taking home gold.

Tonight, Cannes Lions and Campaign, who celebrate 60 years and 40 years respectively this year, will host celebratory welcome drinks at the Festival venue, allowing delegates to network and debrief the day’s events.
