Charities and digital agencies are invited to apply to the program, with the successful applicants receiving seed funding and support to develop a mobile app. Applications for the 2013 App Aid challenge open at 9am AEST on 17 September 2013 and close at 5pm AEST on 4 October 2013.

Developers and charities can register for the 2013 App Aid challenge here.

To encourage Australians to get behind the initiative and help the finalist teams raise additional capital required to bring their app to market, Vodafone Foundation has partnered with crowd-funding platform Pozible. Vodafone Foundation will match every dollar raised (to a maximum of $10,000), with an additional $10,000 donated to the team with the most backers, to help bring its app to market.

Says Alyssa Jones, head of Vodafone Foundation: “The digital age provides charitable organisations with enormous opportunity to reach their community and help in ways previously unimaginable. We’re hoping a reinvigorated format will build on last year’s App Aid success and result in some interesting and creative ideas from developers.

“Vodafone Foundation is proud to be in a position where it can bring charities, developers and mentors in the mobile and technology industry together to develop solutions which will benefit the community.”
