2aa9cdb.jpgRounding out its refreshed roster of directors and producers, director/DP of note, Michael Joy has joined Window.

True to his name, Joy’s work is as diverse as it is evocative. His ability to realise powerful, authentic performances with actors and natural talent has brought him equal success in commercial, documentary and drama arenas. He works intuitively, exploring character and emotion and shaping compelling stories with sometimes the barest of facilities and while his personal preference is for natural lighting, unguarded performance and in-camera techniques, he is equally adept with complex studio lighting and special effects.

His debut feature film Men’s Group, which he wrote and directed, was awarded Best Film, Best Script, and Best Actor at Australia’s Independent Film Awards and invited to screen at festivals internationally.

One review of Men’s Group encapsulates Michael’s ethos: “Michael Joy and his heartrending cast have made a profound film without a trace of pretension. Devastatingly emotional but warm and compassionate, with soft rays of optimism lighting dark and gloomy places, providing a neat balancing act between torment and optimism, Men’s Group achieves a great deal without straying far from simple things…”  And he can achieve all that in 30 seconds.
