Screen Shot 2014-01-24 at 1.53.17 pm.jpgIn an exciting Australian first, MTV is letting fans at this years Big Day Out tour get touchy feely with “MTV’s Balls” – supersized beach balls that capture footage of key performances through cameras and aerials embedded in the balls and bounced around the crowds via The Creative Shop.

The oversized beach balls contain a series of cameras and aerials, capturing and streaming content from the event giving attendees a chance to relive their experience and fans that miss out, a chance to watch the shows live via a punters point of view, directly from the crowd. A gallery of images is already available on MTV Australia’s Facebook page, from the Gold Coast Big Day Out.

Screen Shot 2014-01-24 at 1.53.31 pm.jpgSays Jake Stone, frontman from Bluejuice: “MTV has always had massive balls and Bluejuice will be demonstrating similar characteristics during our BDO performances. We look forward to sticking our collective balls in your face at the Big Day Out.”

The aptly named Social Ball will be a main feature across the full 2014 Big Day Out tour. Having started in Auckland and the Gold Coast, to the delight of festival reveller, this week they will travel to Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide before finishing up in Perth on February 2. Bands involved include The Lumineers, Bluejuice, The Hives, Bliss N Eso, Mac Miller, Primus, Tame Impala and Grouplove.

Says Simon Bates, director of MTV Australia and New Zealand: “With over 1.6 million social connections in Australia and New Zealand and one of the world’s leading social media brands, our goal with MTV’s Balls was to create a new, unique way to engage with audiences across all platforms and generate innovative content that’s fun and sharable.”

MTV will also be covering Big Day Out 2014 extensively on air and online. The Big Day Out online takeover includes artist interviews, editorial reviews, photo galleries, punter’s point of view specials and clips and photos from MTV’s Social Balls featured on www.mtv.com.au/bigdayout.
