Corn-Cobs-press-release.jpgHot off the heels of the enormously successful Doritos Finger Cleaner viral commercial, director Tom Noakes is teaming up with comedy director Matt Kamen to create Corn Cobs and Friends and Corn, a comedy web series about two super friendly sociopaths running a food truck.

The series is one of 25 projects, selected from almost 500 entries to receive funding from the ABC and Screen Australia co-funded #FreshBlood initiative. Three episodes of Corn Cobs will receive an exclusive launch on ABC’s iview in mid 2014 and repeat broadcasts on ABC2 throughout the year.

Says Richard Finlayson, ABC’s director of television: “Not only does it continue ABC TV’s commitment to nurturing and supporting fantastic Australian comedic talent, it gives 25 aspiring comedians and comedy groups the amazing opportunity to see their ideas turned into content that will premiere on iView later this year.”

Both directors are inspired by the dark and subversive comedy of Tim and Eric, plus the character rich worlds of East Bound and Down, Louie and Trailer Park Boys.

Says Kamen: “We’re not interested in your typical gag driven material at all. It’s much more understated and unexpected, more of an anti-comedy.”

Corn Cobs and Friends and Corn follows two best friends who go to bizarre and occasionally depraved lengths to protect their friendship.

Says Noakes: “There’s a superficial innocence to the characters who turn out to be brilliantly weird… it’s your typical bro-mance, just super creepy.”

The series will be produced by Chris Kamen and Belinda Dean and is co-written by Will Goodfellow.
