KOJO - CREATURE TECHNOLOGY 1.jpgIn a first time collaboration with The Creature Technology Company, Kojo has set out to create a digital showcase featuring the innovative company’s iconic animatronic creations including the world-famous King Kong, Walking with Dinosaurs – The Arena Spectacular and the giant mascots for the 2014 Winter Olympics Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

Founded in 2006, The Creature Technology Company produces animatronic characters through sophisticated technology, ingenious creativity and exceptional talent for arena spectaculars, theme parks, exhibitions, stage shows and major events worldwide.

Says Tim Rolfe, Creature Technology Company commercial director: “We were looking for a website that would exemplify the innovation of The Creature Technology Company in its design – and Kojo delivered.”

KOJO - CREATURE TECHNOLOGY 2.jpgThe design and development process was derived from an organic relationship with the brand, the team members and being privy to the creative execution employed in giving these creatures ‘life’. From the initial concept through to deployment, Kojo wanted to ensure it had a deep understanding of the company’s complexity, the vast amount of unique skill sets involved, the workspace and sheer scale of projects.

Says Mike Wilson, Kojo’s national creative director: “Bringing the on-stage experience into an online environment was our initial goal, but after visiting The Creature Technology Company’s design studio we found the story of its artists equally compelling. The company’s process, dedication to craft and creativity is something to be behold, and thankfully through this site we are able to give a glimpse into their world.”

After seeing the role ‘light’ played in the live stage performances, Kojo designer Phil Moule replicated this technique bringing a similar effect into the online experience through the implementation of a JQuery full screen homepage slider that enables users to play with the very same ‘searchlight’ reveal functionality.

Says Moule: “On-stage the lighting enhances the storytelling, so we’ve taken a cue from this and enabled visitors online to control the ‘lighting’ through their cursor.”

With an emphasis placed on the visually beautiful, the entire site is driven by rich imagery including full screen video backgrounds and immersive photo galleries. A full screen slider is featured on the homepage allowing users to scroll through the menu and individual project stories. Similarly, the site’s responsive nature means that all content presented is optimised across all viewing devices, meaning it’s accessible from anywhere at any time.
