The latest instalment of the hit TVC – “Sick Sergei” – which launched last night sees head of IT and head tea maker Sergei rushed to hospital suffering from stress and exhaustion as too many Australians are mistakenly visiting comparethemeerkat.com.au to compare their health insurance options ahead of 30 June to avoid the health tax.

Screen Shot 2014-05-05 at 9.03.35 am.jpgFor the first time, Australians get to see the world through Sergei’s eyes and hear his thoughts as he’s wheeled through the hospital on a gurney pushed by furry paws. As Sergei starts to lose consciousness, we see Aleksandr’s softer side as he urges Sergei to come back to him. Unfortunately, his dream is quickly shattered as Aleksandr’s true intentions come to light – he only wants Sergei to get better as he’s already four days late for work.

It seems Aleksandr’s gift of a brand new ‘laptop-amabob’ to enable Sergei to work all day and all night – seen in the last TVC “Tough Decision” – has backfired on him, as Sergei, much like the meerkat comparison website, is breaking down.

For the sake of Sergei, so he can get back to work, Aleksandr tells the audience “to compare savings on health insurance, by calling comparethemarket.com.au. Simples.”

Says Aleksandr: “My website has crash, and so has Sergei! Who will make my tea now?”

Says Grant Waldeck, spokesperson at comparethemarket.com.au: “The latest TVC is big news in the evolution of the meerkats in Australia. It’s the first time we see the world through Sergei’s eyes and feel firsthand his mixture of love and frustration at his over-bearing boss Aleksandr. We’re proud of the meerkats and the enjoyment they bring to consumers across Australia. As cute as they are, they do tell an important message. In this case, it’s that consumers should be mindful that 30 June is fast-approaching, and they should take this opportunity to think about their health insurance options in order to avoid a higher-than-necessary tax bill.”
