Devondale introduces Mr Vanderhoof in new campaign breaking tonight via DDB Melbourne
CB Exclusive – Murray Goulburn is set to release the first of the “next generation’ of advertising for Devondale via DDB Melbourne, this time for the product launch of Devondale Smoothies.
The agency introduces us to Mr. Vanderhoof, a delightful and multi-talented maths and geography teacher with a twist.
The campaign, launching tonight, was directed by Benji Weinstein at Exit Films. The TV spot will also run in cinema and be supported by point of sale nationally.
The high-profile Devondale campaign of 2013 consisted of eight irreverently humorous executions that won the hearts of Australians through its unique dramatisation of everyday life and awkward moments.
Says DDB Melbourne executive creative director, Darren Spiller: “Last year we took the category conventions for dairy and turned them on their heads. We took regular daily scenarios, added unique but relatable characters and exaggerated them to the point of the ridiculous. The campaign is still driven by both a product and human insight but we’re adding a new dimension. Pushing the boundaries a little more. Making sure that we spice it up and keep it fresh.”
Adds Devondale general manager Innovations, Marketing & Special Projects, Suzanne Douglas: “We were delighted with the campaign for Devondale last year, and with the results of course. The great work continues with the launch of NEW Devondale Smoothies – the team at DDB really understand the Devondale brand and have done a great job in integrating the product truth behind our most recent product innovation with the ad idea itself.”

I like it. Last years campaign had hits and misses and inconsistencies, but good over all. I think this one shows a more considered execution. Good work DDB.
Teach me your ways!

Darren Spiller does rather like men dressed up as animals, as this Maxibon ad he also Creative Directed at Mojo shows.

It’s good. But it’s a Skittles ad. So I guess it’s good if carefully mimicking the humour of successful campaigns is OK. Call me old fashioned…
But isn’t.
It’s good…know what I mean?
Is that a talking dog?
