Starkey brings 16 years experience both in production companies and agencies. For 11 years, she ran boutique production company, Verve Films, before leaving to freelance as a producer on branded content projects, notably working on ‘Kiwi Sceptics’ for Air New Zealand.

Says Simon Lee, creative partner and ECD at The Hallway: “Carolyn’s appointment is indicative of the direction in which our work is naturally taking us, telling powerful stories and using them in powerful ways means constantly exploring new production and funding models. With her experience running a production company as well as producing for agencies, Carolyn is ideally placed to help us and our clients take full advantage of the exciting opportunities that today’s rapidly evolving marketing and entertainment landscapes afford.”

Starkey is looking forward to the new challenge.

Says Starkey: “The Hallway is a really innovative business, full of incredibly smart and passionate people who understand how to engage with screen audiences across multiple platforms. I wasn’t really looking to join an agency, but after meeting Simon, who wrote, directed and produced his own feature documentary, Dream Racer, and the rest of the amazing team, I felt incredibly excited about the opportunity.”

Starkey began her career in broadcast television and has also produced broadcast design, visual effects and post-production.  Her work has been awarded internationally at the New York festivals, Clios, D&AD, BDA and in Australia at Award.

Starkey also sat on the board for the Screen Producers Association of Australia (SPAA) where she provided advocacy and thought leadership in commercial production with government, unions, community and screen industry stakeholders.

The Hallway was recently appointed to the NSW Government agency panel, and was runner-up in both AdNews’ Independent Agency of the Year and B&T NSW Agency of the Year awards.
