When you’ve got two kick ass trail blazer women up on stage I wanted to know how they did it and what they can tell me. SJP nailed it.

Sarah Jessica Parker is a game changer. She came into Sex and the City not knowing it would be the smash hit. Nobody knew.  HBO took a gamble on it. I grew up with Sex and the City – I was lucky enough to never know a time when talking about sex before marriage was unacceptable. The writers used some interesting strategy to create one hell of an impact. They pushed the envelope but just far enough considering the freedom they had (a freedom that I fear most writers in our industry feel they don’t have today). SJP talks about how a big part of this was because of the show’s home on HBO. They were allowed to push the language. They were allowed to be vulgar. However, the writers of the show became very good at toeing the line. They became very good at finding new ways of talking about intimacy.

One thing you’ve got to love about Sarah Jessica Parker is her ability to find something, run with it and then make it her bitch. She started as the lead actress and within a very short time wasn’t just a talent, but became a producer on the show. She used hours of fittings with Patricia Field, a legend in her own right, to learn about fashion and design technology. In a time when agencies are constantly striving to find a way to form true collaborations, SJP makes it look like a breeze to simply move from the world of acting to take on a design role and collaboration with a fashion label.

When SJP and Joanna Coles took the stage I was sweating, wondering if I would have anything even slightly relevant to impart in this review. But the ladies did me proud and left me with a few tips and tricks, but most importantly –  never tweak (or write a review) whilst drunk.
