2013-12-16 10.38.05.jpgFriends is a service set up by Gemma Cadwallader (left), offering a solution for creative agencies who are looking to add extra project management to their company’s services whilst keeping overheads low.

Cadwallader is an advertising suit with over 15 years of big agency experience, and discovered the opportunity whilst helping out a friend and owner of a small creative agency, with a surplus in workload and project management tasks.

Says Cadwallader: “I’ve always enjoyed working in the industry but I wanted a change from working for big agencies. I love this way of working as it’s a chance to work on some exciting projects, with some interesting people by offering cost effective project management.”

Friends are a group of experienced big-agency people that can be employed by the hour, day or on a fixed fee to handle a project from beginning to end. Creative agencies only pay for the project management hours they need.

There are a growing number of experienced creative teams going out on their own to form small or boutique creative agencies. Many are spending time doing timelines, admin and managing client issues, which takes their focus away from the creative product. And there are many larger sized agencies who hire freelancers for a block of time to manage an overflow of work but often it’s not financially viable given a project can run for longer than planned and require a varying amount of hours spent on it each week.

And larger agencies can employ a cost efficient resource until they have certainty that the workload will remain to justify adding another full-time employee”.
