MICHAEL D SAATCHI AND SAATCHI.jpgBy day, Michael Demosthenous is a senior business manager on one of Saatchi & Saatchi Australia’s largest accounts. By night, he is a writer, director, producer and now, finalist in the largest short film festival in the world, Tropfest. His entry, along with co-creator Stephen James King, Little Bondi, screened alongside 15 other finalists selected out of more than 600 entries this year.

Demosthenous realised his passion for the creative industry, in particular film and filmmaking at an early age. His creative ambitions led him to Newtown High School of the Performing Arts. At university, Demosthenous studied a Bachelor of Media with a Bachelor of Law and made short films on the side as they offered a creative alternative to his legal assignments. Demosthenous  joined Saatchi & Saatchi in 2010 after being selected as the agency’s top pick through the competitive Communications Council graduate program. A program designed to identify and nurture future industry leaders.

Tropfest is Australia’s most prestigious short film festival and one of its most iconic cultural events. It is also the largest short film festival in the world. Demosthenous’ entry was screened as part of the festival at Centennial Park on December 7, as well as outdoor screens across Australia. Tropfest 2014 was also screened simultaneously on SBS 2 and streamed worldwide by SBS Online.

Demosthenous’ ability to make it to the finals in such a highly contested event proves that creative minds can be found in any department.
