Beatrice Masia CB.jpgWhen you think of production in Australia and New Zealand, your first thought might not be Perth, in Western Australia. However, this gem on the west coast is a treasure trove of magnificent locations with a stunning climate and talent to spare.

“Perth has an amazing amount to offer foreign clients, be it impressive location services or award-winning local production houses, the region’s track record for producing high-end global-facing campaigns is unsung yet unsurpassed,” said Executive Producer Béatrice Masia (left) who is spearheading MHF’s Perth office.

Milk & Honey Films, with offices covering Beijing, Los Angeles, New York, Buenos Aires, Prague and Cape Town has now added Perth to its roster, giving the company production capabilities across the entirety of Australia and New Zealand. The company, founded by Tomas Krejci, has a solid 20 years of providing production services worldwide.

Originally from Paris, Masia has over 20 years experience as a producer. She started her carrier with multi national advertising agencies BBDO Paris and DDB Paris working on clients such as Pepsi-Cola, Kookai, Henkel, Mars & Givenchi. Masia relocated to Australia in 2000 and soon fell in love with all that the region has to offer. After a couple years with Perth hot shop 303Lowe and a quick stint with Marketforce/BBDO, she went freelance with the likes of Sauce Films & Oxygen Pictures. She quickly grasped the then burgeoning potential of the local production possibilities and started her own company Open Spaces Productions.

“In Western Australia, you have locations you can’t find anywhere else in the world On Perth’s door step: pristine white sandy beaches with swimmable warm water, the Pinnacles, Wave Rock and white sandy dunes that stretch as far as the eye can see to name a few. On top of that, you have local rates that are unbeatable, especially when compared to Sydney or Auckland. The Administrative Authorities here understand the needs of the commercial and film industries and are very accommodating. And for clients coming from abroad, Perth saves you 6 hours of flight time, as opposed to crossing the continent to get to Sydney.”

And, according to Masia, that’s just the local Perth advantages. If you want to shoot in any part of Australia or New Zealand, MHF has the capabilities of making that happen.

Tomas Krejci 3.jpg“In Australia and New Zealand,” says MHF founder Tomas Krejci (pictured left), “we can offer this global network of resources. The other companies there are great and they have great capabilities locally. However, the Milk & Honey name represents worldwide support – on six continents, in any time zone, we have someone on the ground with you. Not just co-productions, but Milk & Honey people. We are everywhere.”

Indeed, the Milk & Honey network is substantial and they pride themselves in their interconnectedness.

“Working with Milk & Honey Films in Perth,” Masia added, “You are connected to a bigger network, a larger scale of resources. You are not just dealing with a co-production. Whatever country you are in, you can contact a local Milk & Honey office and that producer can accommodate the needs of your boards and coordinate with any of the other offices to get you the best possibilities for your project.”

And on a final note on Perth, Masia leaves us with one piece of inarguable logic, “If you are down here and you want a sunset shot, you have to be in the west.” Wild and unique locations, incredible weather, unbeatable prices and beautiful beaches topped with a sunset – plan on hearing more from Perth, Australia in the very near future.”
