CB Exclusive: Special Group, Sydney hires star creative team Jack Nunn and Charlie Gearside
CB can reveal that Special Group, Sydney has made its first creative hires – Jack Nunn and Charlie Gearside – a heavily awarded team that most recently worked at M&C Saatchi Sydney and Melbourne, creating campaigns for Google, CommBank and helping to win the Cricket Australia account.
Prior to this Nunn (near right) worked at Havas, Sydney, producing a number of campaigns including ‘Durex – Fundawear’ which was awarded at Cannes, D&AD and showcased at SXSW. Whereas Gearside (above left) joined the ad industry after five years as a developer/interface designer at several web startups. Last year they were named Cannes Young Lions finalists in both the digital and film categories.
Says Matty Burton, joint creative director and partner: “Jack and Charlie are two very talented, very muscular and very funny individuals. They have fitted in well and are already creating some pretty interesting work for a few of our clients. Dave and I are secretly incredibly impressed with the guys but don’t tell them that.”

The names are familiar. Are they both the sons of a previous generation of talented adfolk?
Congrats boys. Well done.
Nice one gents.
Congrats Jack!
Welcome to the gun show.
Grats fellas.
got nothing on my guns
Well done Jack, good move.
Looks like they’ve both been working on the national spinach account.

The worst part is they’re not wearing any pants.

Stars?
I don’t think so. If the word ‘rising’ preceded it I would perhaps agree.
Let’s look a little more closely at the PR release.
It seems that Jack got a lot of finalists for his Funderpants thing that Charlie had nothing to do with. They were young Lion finalists among a lot of others. They ‘helped’ win some business at M&C .
I am sure they are bright young guys and I wish them well.
Nothing a good leg kick wouldn’t bring down to earth. Well done Jack and the other guy too. Jack is a real talent and a keen little fella.
Onya boys. #youngguns
bloody great guys- ones to watch
You’re a real grinch. Lighten up. they’re a couple of young kids doing awesome work. And you? You’re being a downer on CB.
Nice work guys. Look forward to seeing what work you guys will get out the doors.
Fuck that’s rough Lou.
I am not being a grinch or being rough, hopefully I am doing them a favour.
Boys,you are not stars.
I suggest you keep doing what you are doing and you might end up being stars.
Hey Lou,
Eat shit and die you negative idiot.
Nice work fellas!
Good on you, fellas. I’m sure we’ll see more of your awesome work soon! Looks like arm wrestling may well edge table tennis out of top spot for the agency preferred sport at Special Group.
Quality arm fold boys… Well done Jack, killing it 🙂
Boy oh boy. Australia (No, Sydney) runs on acidic hatred.
Good for you, Jack, proud of you mate, genuine talent. But on the other hand, Lou, you totally have a point – and I’m sure the boys agree. Early days.
The person who told Lou to “eat shit” sounds like an individual who is experiencing a very mediocre career in advertising. I certainly wouldn’t employ you.
