The Pool Grant is an initiative that provides $10,000 to an emerging artist for the fulfillment of their own personal photographic project. Founded in 2009, the Pool Grant was created as a means to give back to the wider photographic community. The Pool Collective artists saw a need to support the development of fresh talent in the industry and have spent the past six years sharing their expertise and acting as mentors to each year’s Pool Grant recipient.

One in six Australians experience some form of hearing loss, yet it is an issue which is rarely talked about. Right Hear, Right Now is Disher-Quill’s body of work exploring the diverse experiences of Deafness and hearing loss. Using elements of photography, multimedia and installation, she has created a sensory experience to provide the audience with some understanding of what it is like to live with a hearing loss.

The goal of this project is to break down the barriers and stigmas associated with Deafness, to open up a conversation and to empower those who feel the need to hide a part of their identity.

Garnering immense support from the arts community, Disher-Quill’s unique exhibition is featured as part of this years Head On Photo Festival, Australia’s largest photo festival. After receiving countless proposals from both Australian and New Zealand emerging artists, The Pool Collective will also be announcing the recipient of the 2015 Pool Grant at tonight’s event.
