Australia scores one Silver and two Bronze at the 2015 CLIO Sports Awards presented in New York

gameoninnocean.jpgCLIO Sports, the esteemed international competition honoring creative excellence in sports, has today announced the CLIO Sports winners.

Australia has scored one Silver Award and two Bronze Awards. Innocean Australia was awarded Silver for KIA Australia ‘Game On’ in the Digital/Social category. Cummins&Partners Melbourne scored a Bronze for Tennis Australia ‘Get Closer to The Action’ in Audio and CHE Proximity, Melbourne also won Bronze for ICC Cricket World Cup ‘Greatness is Contagious’ in the Film category.

The CLIO Sports jury comprised of industry leaders including Scott O’Neil, chief executive officer, Philadelphia 76ers and John Miller, chief marketing officer, NBC Sports Marketing Group, selected the most innovative and exceptional projects of the year including TBWA\Chiat\Day’s “Made in NY” for Gatorade featuring Derek Jeter.

Says Nicole Purcell, president, CLIO: “In our second year, CLIO Sports has continued its growth as a global brand. Our winners this year include more than 35 international recipients representing sports creative featuring athletes in tennis, golf, football, hockey and many more. The powerful entries we received are a refreshing reminder of the rich talent that exists in sports marketing and advertising.”

The July 8 ceremony, hosted by retired NFL star Tiki Barber, featured a special presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award in memory of the late Stuart Scott. ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt presented the honor to Scott’s family, sister Susan Scott and daughters Taelor and Sydni Scott. During the speech, Susan Scott officially announced the Stuart O. Scott Foundation. The organization.

Says Scott: “His vision from his hospital bed, focuses on caring for cancer fighters in their everyday struggle to lead a normal life, in exactly the way that he was able to.”

Serving as a type of “cancierge” resource for individual cancer fighters, the foundation will launch at the end of October 2015.

Beginning in 2016, the CLIO Sports lifetime honor will be renamed the Stuart Scott Lifetime Achievement Award.

Gatorade received the inaugural CLIO Sports Brand Icon Award, which recognizes one brand that has transcended the product or service it provides to become a permanent fixture in popular culture. Mark Tatum, deputy commissioner and chief operating officer, National Basketball Association, presented the award to Brett O’Brien, senior vice president and general manager, Gatorade and Propel.

Says O’Brien: “So many of the people, teams, leagues and brands in this room are creating truly inspiring work – it is a privilege to be recognized as an iconic brand by this amazing group.”

During his speech, O’Brien also gave special recognition to Ben Jackson who was in the CLIO Sports audience. Jackson was featured in Gatorade’s “Never Finished” for the Win from Within campaign.

Noah Galloway, United States Army Veteran – 101st Airborne Division, Dancing with the Stars finalist and athlete also made an appearance in front of the marketing, creative and brand crowd. Following a warm standing ovation, Galloway introduced the Innovative Grand CLIO celebrating work that utilizes advertising and marketing in a new, unique, or especially creative manner. Doron Gura, group director, Production, R/GA and Karen Bonna-Rainert, creative director, Experience Design by Shea, R/GA accepted for Equinox “The Pursuit”.

Major milestones for 2015 include CLIO Healthcare (final deadline July 10), CLIO Music (final deadline July 10), CLIO Awards (September 30 gala) and CLIO Key Art Awards (entries open through August 7).
