Push notification from an unused app interrupts Shabbadu’s new staff announcement photo shoot

campaign brief_1.jpegA push notification from a recently unused app has brought Shabbadu’s new staff announcement photo shoot to an abrupt end.

Seeking a quality picture to help promote the hiring of Academy of Design graduate Leah Morris and the return of creative strategist Angus Smallwood in a professional, yet suitably creative, manner, Shabbadu had enlisted the help of renowned photographer Thomas Franks at Hell Studios in Cremorne (Vic).

The team had only just convened on the cyc, with Franks doing some early lighting tests, when the notification came. Unfortunately, the distraction ruined the ‘moment’ and the ‘vibe’ never recovered.

Says Chris Taylor, creative director, Shabbadu: “I can’t even remember what it was from. If I was to have a guess it was probably Words with Friends, but now I think about it, it could have been 2048. Either way, we had this really fun thing going on and I was convinced we were going to capture a great publicity shot.”

General manager, Sheridan Bott, couldn’t help but feel sorry for the new guys.

Says Bott: “Yeah, it was a real shame. It’s great to have Angus back and Leah is amazing. But at least these guys got a new employee press release. Unlike some people. (cough).”

Says Michael Farr, senior designer: “I just can’t believe he hasn’t finished 2048 yet.”

The new hires come off the back of a great first half of 2015, with a number of new business wins in the bag with more on the horizon. Shabbadu’s Comms Audit has been largely responsible for the recent success.

Post rationalisation of the incident is ongoing. In the meantime, push notifications have been turned off.
