Screen Shot 2015-10-29 at 11.57.40 am.jpgAgency has created a video mashup of Malcolm Turnbull and other senior members of Parliament covering Michael Jackson’s ‘Heal The World’ to call for support for the Campaign for Australian Aid.

The video was released by the Campaign for Australian Aid coalition at dearprimeminister.org. The video follows a newspaper advertisement placed by the Campaign one week ago, and a similar mashup video of Malcolm Turnbull’s speeches, in order to attract the attention of the new prime minister.

Opposition leader Bill Shorten, deputy opposition leader, deputy prime minister and foreign minister Julie Bishop, treasurer Scott Morrison, Greens leader Richard Di Natale, Clive Palmer, Christopher Pyne and others join the prime minister in an inspiring rendition, calling for a better world “for you and for me”.

Says Tony Milne, executive officer for the Campaign for Australian Aid: “For years under the Howard government, every political party supported Australian aid. It was a key part in our national identity, our place in the world. To get back there will require the support of all politicians.”

Mine added recent announcements from the Australian Labor Party and the Australian Greens committing to repairing the Australian aid budget, showed that there was willingness across for bipartisanship.

The release of this mashup video was timed to coincide with data released yesterday from Roy Morgan which shows that more Australians support an increase in aid than don’t; for the first time since 2011.

The video follows a cheeky theme from the campaign for Australian Aid which last month saw them using mashups to write a speech for Turnbull; promoting it with an advertisement directed to the prime minister in The Australian.

Says Milne: “Last month, we went to the effort of writing Mr Turnbull a speech and now, we’ve taken things a step further by gathering bits and pieces from our favourite speeches and combining them in a song that demonstrates our nation’s unity ticket for Australian aid.

“It’s time for Mr Turnbull to take that first step towards repairing the Australian aid budget.”
