The annual RMIT Sexton Media Award, running since 1995, is Victoria’s foremost student media and communications award and celebrates up and coming talent to the industry.

O’Connor was selected by a judging panel comprising RMIT faculty, Dentsu Mitchell employees and representatives of Visit Victoria for his response to a brief to come up with a campaign for Visit Victoria and The Book of Mormon.

He wins a cheque for $500 along with an internship at Dentsu Mitchell while completing his studies.

Dentsu Mitchell has been a proud sponsor of the John Sexton Memorial Award since 2012, and has a long-standing relationship with RMIT supporting their education of young and promising talent.

Past winners of the Sexton Media Award have gone on to accept full time roles at Dentsu Mitchell, such as Matt Heyns who received the award in 2013. Heyns was offered the position of digital coordinator in January of this year following a placement with the agency during his university studies.

Says Ron Phillips, group client services director, Dentsu Mitchell: “We are proud to play a key role in supporting young new talent to our industry and look forward to many more years supporting RMIT though our sponsorship of the Sexton Media Award.”
