XXXX GOLD to reward Aussie cricket fans with launch of the tech enabled ‘Goldie’ cap
XXXX GOLD will be offering fans something extra special as the weather warms up with the release of The Goldie – a tech enabled cricket cap, designed to reward fans for coming together right across Australia created by Geometry.
The Goldies are Australian gold in colour and will be available to cricket fans by purchasing specially marked packs of XXXX GOLD or at a participating venue. Each Goldie is designed to bring people together using an iBeacon, which can detect other Goldies close by, through the XXXX GOLD App.
Each time fans connect with two or more mates wearing their Goldies, they each have the chance to win a share of 6000 cricket-related prizes valued at $350,000. The more times fans catch up wearing their Goldies and show their support for the Aussie cricket team, the more chances they have to win.
Launching the Goldie ahead of the Ashes is Adam Gilchrist, former Australian Test cricketer and XXXX GOLD ambassador.
Says Gilchrist: “Cricket is about more than just the players. It’s about the fans that head out to the Test, play cricket at the beach or get together with their mates at home to watch the match.
“The Goldie has been created to unite these fans over their favourite sport and make them feel part of the Ashes this summer.”
Says Richard Knight, marketing manager, XXXX GOLD: “We thought doing something big for the fans was a great way to kick off the season. Launching the Goldie is all about giving Aussies more joy in coming together over cricket this summer. Whether you’re playing cricket with your mates in the backyard or sitting in the stands -the Goldie is going to take the experience to the next level.
“Partnering with Cricket Australia was a natural fit for us, especially given that XXXX GOLD has long been a supporter of cricket. We’re stoked to be back and be the official beer sponsor of the Australian cricket team and encourage Aussies to get together with their family and friends under the Aussie sun and celebrate the season ahead.”
Adding to the excitement of the Australian Men’s test matches and One Day Internationals, XXXX GOLD will be giving fans in the crowd the chance to win $10,000 every time a batsman hits a six over the fence. Fans sitting in the lower tier bays simply need to catch the ball whilst wearing their Goldie to be eligible. The ‘XXXX GOLD $10k catch’ will be open to those over the age of 18.
Goldies are available now, and will give cricket fans the chance to win Ashes tickets, match day VIP experiences and more.

Really?
Do you expect the XXXX 45+ tradie audience to enter into this user journey?
1. buy a case
2. grab the hat
3. watch the video
4. download an app (barrier)
5. create an account (even bigger barrier)
6. take out beacon
7. pair it with phone
8. put it back in hat
9. find /convince a mate to get a case with a hat (and for THEM to go through the arduous journey noted above)
10. hang out with a mate
11. maybe win something.
12. repeat steps 9-11 every day until you win something.
Props for convincing Lion to do this, but I’d be interested to know the hit rate and ROI.
hahaha
Maybe the brief was “We really don’t want anyone to win this”
I for one was excited to see what XXXX Gold would come up with for cricket after some vacant years of good ideas from Vic Bitter.
Sad to say this is underwhelming and nowhere near as race as Beach Cricket they did a few years back.
Plus very unoriginal. Poor Lion. Poor.

This is literally a piss poor, over complicated version of Tui ‘Catch a Million’ then?
No wonder no one has wanted to put their name on this press release…
I can see people getting behind this. The hat itself has that right mix of wearable and laughable that young blokes would buy in to. Especially if their mates are doing it with them
@Little Man spot on.
Lion are so far up their own arse they can’t see the absurdity of this.
Hi i receive my hat beacon fiiday.today sunday still trying to connect my beacon code no. in not very happy. Steve.fleming13@gmail.com 0421598271.
Hi I purchased a xxxx Gold 30 can block so I can get a cap, however it’s not a specially marked case, I still have 29 cans left Is there any other way I can get a code as to obtain a xxxx Gold Cap without purchasing another case ?
@ The little man, understanding is that u dont have to sign up and must merely be wearing cap and take catch to win 10g. Or is that wishful thinking
Who do i contact about not receiving my gold cap. i purchased in December and have my receipt
