KIA Sorento gives punters something to smile about in latest campaign via Innocean Australia
Kia has launched its new Sorento SUV with a new campaign from Innocean Australia.
All Kias come with a wealth of features but the single-minded launch spot focuses on the Sorento’s 360-degree camera.
As the new 7-seat SUV travels through the Aussie countryside, four characters each pose and give a smile for the Sorento’s 360-degree camera. A cheeky gnome, a smiley cattle dog, an unusually happy sheep and finally a grinning old croc, which innocently sends the family racing away from the camp ground. A fresh take on the Nat King Cole classic ‘Smile’ completes this spot.
From its 8-Speed Manual transmission to its Lane Keep Assist technology, the newly styled Sorento gives you plenty to smile about, so the launch commercial is accompanied by a suite of digital films, each focusing on one of freshly styled SUV’s many great features.
The campaign runs from July and will form a major part of the recent announcement of Kia Sorento winning Australia’s Best Cars Best SUV $50,000 – $65,000.
Says Steve Jackson, Executive Creative Director of Innocean Australia: “A few things made me smile about this spot. Firstly, the single-minded narrative. More often than not everybody wants to focus on everything. Secondly, working with Noah Marshall again who, along with Blockhead, helped us create a really elegant tone for the spot. And finally, the singer, I was nervous about retaining the class of Nat’s masterpiece, but she’s rather fabulous I think. Thank you Nylon for finding such a gem.”

the singer who remains nameless but nylon gets 4 credits. ‘class’
Yes the singer is fantastic!
She didn’t approve that we use her name for PR purposes, so it wasn’t include on the credits.
Let’s not mince words. This ad is shit. That’s constructive criticism of course.
What a shock.
How handsome is that Cattle Dog!!! Needs more screen time! What a star!
The singer really should be acknowledged. Her voice is wonderful. Please tell us who she is.
Charlie chaplin wrote that song, would love to know who was the singer ( beautiful )

I really can’t understand the choice of “Smile” – made famous by Nat King Cole in the early 1950s – for this ad. The song was popular when I was very young, and I’ve found it inspirational during times of hardship, as it speaks of putting on a brave face when things get bad: “Smile when your heart is aching, smile even though it’s breaking … although a tear may be ever so near.” So in the context of the ad I can’t get past imagining that the people in the ad have saved up their hard-earned money and bought a Kia which has turned out a complete lemon and broken their hearts – yet, bravely, they keep smiling. And this is SO not the message we should be getting – I have a friend with a Kia who says it’s the best car he’s ever had. What were the advertising agents thinking!
Yes i agree with Michael, release the name of the singer (best version i’ve heard of that song)
I would love to hear lots more of her voice.
