We Are Social launches microsite for iconic social media moments over the last 10 years

2008-U.S.elections-CamilaRosa-600x848.jpgGlobal socially-led creative agency, We Are Social, has created a dedicated microsite acknowledging hero moments of the past decade in social media.

Including socially-driven moments like #JeSuisCharlie and #MeToo, the site is designed to recognise the increasing impact of social media on global culture. It showcases the work of 10 artists commissioned by We Are Social to create original artworks, each representing a year between 2008 and 2017. These original works – using media from print to projection – are on display at an exclusive exhibition in London. The show is part of the agency’s ongoing 10th birthday celebrations.

Online, there is information about the artists involved and the significance behind the event depicted in their works. Each page on the site also highlights memorable social moments from that year: like 2015, when words became redundant and emojis became the fastest-growing visual language in the world.

Says Nathan McDonald, co-founder and global CEO, We Are Social: “Since starting We Are Social a decade ago, we’ve seen changes occur faster and faster each passing year; as new technologies, innovative platforms and cultural trends have helped evolve social media. As we look forward to what the next 10 years will mean for the agency, our clients, and the marketing industry, it was important to reflect some key moments where social has given people a voice and shaped the world around us.”

Says Suzie Shaw, managing director, We Are Social in Australia: “Reflecting on these iconic moments underlines the relative impact and influence of social media and helps explain its meteoric growth. It’s clear to see that social is central to the fabric of global culture and conversation.”
