Fiction’s Natalie Erika James commences production on feature film directing debut

Fiction’s Natalie Erika James is commencing production on her feature film directing debut, Relic, financed through Screen Australia, Film Victoria, and Anthony and Joe Russo’s AGBO. The psychological horror film is produced by Carver Films and Jake Gyllenhaal’s Nine Stories.

Starring Emily Mortimer (The Bookshop, Our Idiot Brother, Shutter Island), Australian stage and screen icon Robin Nevin (Upper Middle Bogan, The Turning) and rising star Bella Heathcote (Fifty Shades Darker, The Neon Demon), the story written by Natalie and Christian White centres on three generations of women from the one family who are haunted by a manifestation of aged dementia that takes over their family home.

Says James: “Relic was inspired by the experience of Alzheimers within my own family and the shift in family dynamics as we find we all slowly have to parent our own parents. At its core it explores the fear and heartbreak of dementia and ageing through a horror lens.  I’m thrilled to be starting production this week and for the opportunity to tell a story that means so much to me.”

Fiction founders Jake Robb and Jackie Fish are incredibly proud of James’ rise to fame in film making and can’t wait to welcome her back next year, ready and keen for more commercial work from February.
