Protocol makes it easy to film in Auckland

This code of conduct makes filmingin Auckland even easier and more attractive to international and localproducers. This document can also be found on the Film Auckland website.

 

AucklandCity Council developed this protocol in close consultation with FilmAuckland and industry practitioners. The Council is committed tosupporting the film industry and to create an international hub forscreen production.

“The Auckland City Council recognises the key role that Film Aucklandplays in stimulating growth for the screen production industry. Becauseof their dedication and diligence, we are confident this new protocolwill make Auckland a first-choice competitor in the film industry,”says Cr Aaron Bhatnagar, chairman of the City Development Committee.

 

Theprotocol is designed to be easily followed and simplifies the consentprocess. It will enable quicker turnaround times with all decisionsmade transparently.

 

“As part of making Auckland aninternationally renowned film friendly destination, it is imperativethere are rules and regulations in place. This protocol guidesfilmmakers through the consent process enabling them to submit athorough and complete application from the outset,” says RoimataMacgregor, chairperson, Film Auckland.

 

The screen productionindustry contributes $2.2 billion to Auckland’s economy and there areover 1440 production and post-production businesses.

 

Recentproductions made in Auckland include Warner Bros’ 3D version of YogiBear starring Dan Aykroyd and Justin Timberlake; big action movie Icestarring Richard Roxburgh with Sam Neill and Stephen Moyer; Trackerstarring Ray Winstone and Temuera Morrison; The Hopes and Dreams ofGazza Snell starring Robyn Malcolm; Disney telemovie Avalon High;popular kids show Power Rangers; and the US hit TV series Spartacus:Blood and Sand starring Lucy Lawless and John Hannah.
