Getty Images to sponsor 2011 AdAge Global Cover competition – win a trip to Cannes in June
New York: Getty Images today announced its partnership with Advertising Age as the official image sponsor of the 2011 Global Cover Competition. Launched in 2010, the second annual competition sponsored by AOL supports the next generation of creative talent by providing the opportunity for young creatives worldwide to have their work featured on the cover of Advertising Age’s June 13, 2011 Global Issue.
As the official image sponsor, Getty Images will provide all contest participants with access to Getty Images’ visual imagery to help support their creative vision and provide them with the tools to produce winning cover art.
“We are thrilled to partner with Advertising Age for the 2011 Global Cover Competition,” said Andrew Delaney, vice president of Creative Content. “Getty Images is committed to championing the creation and curation of digital visual content – whether developed by amateurs or professionals. The partnership with Advertising Age is a perfect fit, allowing us to provide content creators with quality visual imagery, footage and music to effectively tell their story.”
Entries are now open. One Grand Prize winner will be chosen to attend the 2011 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity where their work will be displayed on an Advertising Age produced billboards at the Majestic. In addition, to having their work featured on the cover of Advertising Age’s Global Issue, the artist will be profiled in Advertising Age, AdAge.com and Creativity-Online.com as well as receiving roundtrip airfare and accommodations to Cannes, France for the 2011 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity where they will be honored at a cocktail party produced by AOL and Advertising Age. Getty Images, AOL, and Advertising Age will also award the top finalists by featuring their work in a gallery exhibit at Cannes.

Why do all of these things seemed to be exclusive to young guns? What about us old farts. Since when did age become a barrier to creativity.
I agree. All these schemes and competitions seem to be based on the assumption that it’s tougher to get a gig when you’re a youngster. I’d argue the opposite is true – I think when you get older, you’re less of an attractive prospect – possibly due to being more expensive or a little less wide-eyed and eager, or this industry’s general prejudice against older people. I might start the Old Bastard’s Award for people over 31.
What about an old guns vs young guns shoot out lasers vs Tommy Guns! Bring it on, I’d dust off my colts and have a crack!
